Deep Questions Early On a Tuesday Morning

There are some accounts in the Bible that leave us scratching our heads wondering how we've missed them all these years. Things we are certain would have caught our attention because of how they captivate us and make us question things in our own lives.

1 Samuel 5 is the account of the Philistines posession of the ark of God and what happens as a result of it being in their hands. To summarize, they took it into the temple of their god Dagon and placed it next to his statue and then went to bed. When they woke up, Dagon had fallen with his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they picked Dagon back up and returned him to his place. After going to bed that night they woke up and now not only was Dagon face down again, but his head and both hands were broken off and only his torso remained.

As I sat reading and rereading this I couldn't help but ask myself the questions I am going to leave us all to think about for today:

How often do we try to put God next to the other gods in our lives
hoping He will just be a nice add to the mix?

and

How many times do we pick the other gods back up
when He is clearly trying to remove them from our lives?
